Essentials of French Polynesia

TOUR CODE: ESSTAH

Visit several distinctly different islands on this eight-night “essentials” tour of The Islands of Tahiti. After a brief stay on the main island of Tahiti, you’ll travel to the carefree, relaxed island of Moorea where it is believed that the mythical “Bali Hai” of James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific was inspired from. Both beautiful and savage, Moorea’s terrain is a combination of jagged mountains, green foothills, colorful houses, pineapple plantations and white sandy beaches, all surrounded by the blue lagoon and protective coral reef. You’ll settle into the slower pace of life before you know it!

Next, you will travel to Bora Bora, a 45-minute flight from Moorea. As you approach the tiny airstrip, you’ll see why many call Bora Bora one of the most beautiful islands in the world. The lagoon sparkles, glittering in many shades of blue and surrounds Mt. Otemanu at the center of the main island. During your stay, you may want to shop for Tahitian cultured pearls, dine in the local pizzeria just down the road from your hotel or take a half-day lagoon tour to get to know the island better.

Day 1  Depart Los Angeles

Make your way to Los Angeles International Airport for your overnight flight to Papeete. Add-on fares available from other US cities, please ask for details.

Day 2: Papeete

Arrive in Papeete where you’ll be greeted and transferred to the Hilton Hotel Tahiti for your one-night stay. Be sure to take in the hotel’s scenic views of Moorea in the distance at sunset! If you have time during the morning hours, be sure to visit the Public Market (Le Marche) in the heart of Papeete for fun shopping. This two-story open-air building is bustling with locals shopping for their daily staples, but is excellent for visitors to find some local treasures as well!

Day 3-5: Papeete – Moorea

Transfer to the ferry terminal along the waterfront in the heart of Papeete where you’ll board the catamaran ferry for Moorea. Since Moorea has a slower pace of life than its sister island of Tahiti, you will find adventure on land or water, or choose to simply enjoy the simplicity of Polynesian life. Included in your stay is a 4×4 safari tour of the island which will bring you to scenic viewpoints and allow you to experience the essence of this lush, beautiful, easy-going island. Enjoy three nights at the perfectly situated Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa. Be sure to take in a pre-dinner cocktail at their overwater creperie and champagne bar!

Day 6-9: Moorea – Bora Bora

Your flight from Moorea to Bora Bora is just 45 minutes. One of nine islands in the Society Islands archipelago of French Polynesia, Bora Bora was formed by a volcano millions of years ago and is surrounded by a thin, protective coral reef around the outer edge. This stunning, romantic, magical gem of an island is anchored in the middle by the green cliffs of Mt. Otemanu and has a string of secluded beaches and motus (small islets) scattered around it. After landing on the airport’s own motu, you’ll be met and transferred by boat to the Conrad Bora Bora Nui resort, also on its own motu. During your stay, enjoy the Shark & Ray Snorkel tour where you’ll have a chance to see the underwater marine life up close!

Day 10: Bora Bora – Papeete

All too soon, it will be time to transfer back to the airport and on to Papeete for your onward journey to Los Angeles, arriving Day 11.
