No trip to Cairns is complete without a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. In this itinerary we have included a wonderful day out to Michaelmas Cay. Enjoy snorkeling in the cay’s protected shallow waters, try an introductory scuba dive in the fringing reefs, cruise in the semi-sub for a diver’s view of the reef, watch the fish feeding presentation, observe the bird life or just chill out on Ocean Spirit’s spacious decks or on the beach. Throughout the day, the ‘beach buggy shuttle’ will transfer you between Ocean Spirit and the beach.

Your adventure is not over yet – we have included a Daintree Dreaming Aboriginal Art & Culture tour including lunch. Visit Janbal Gallery for a painting class with Aboriginal artist, Brian ‘Binna’ Swindley and hear how stories are told through Aboriginal paintings. Paint your own canvas to take home before traveling to Mossman Gorge. You are greeted with a traditional smoking ceremony conducted by Aboriginal people with specialized cultural knowledge to welcome people to their land. Enjoy a delicious lunch infused with local and then wander through the lush rainforest of Manjal Dimbi (Mossman Gorge); home of the Kuku Yalanji rainforest people. Take an easy walk across boardwalks, tracks and bridges that protect this delicate ecosystem. Your Aboriginal guide will share details of the special relationship that the Kuku Yalanji people have with this unique environment.

There is plenty of time to explore other highlights Cairns has to offer, like spent a day at the Cairns Esplanade Swimming Lagoon. This is the perfect way to soak up some sun, enjoy some safe swimming and take in the views of the stunning Trinity Inlet and mountains that line the horizon of Cairns city in Queensland Australia. You might also consider taking a ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, this famous railway winds its way up to the Kuranda, a village in the rainforest. Rising from sea level to 327 meters, the journey to Kuranda passes spectacular waterfalls and into the stunning Barron Gorge.
